Don’t Bring Your Fireworks To Work Today
Today is July 4th, America’s Independence Day. Many of you are going to have the day off and the opportunity to enjoy some quality time with your family and friends, maybe catch some sun at the beach, or perhaps get some grillin’ time in.
For those of us in retail…well needless to say, we’ll probably be working during the holiday…oh well.
To my fellow retail workers: yes I know it sucks being stuck in some store, mall, or warehouse, while everyone gets to have some July 4th fun. Here’s my advice (because I know someone out there will probably do this): don’t bring in any illegal fireworks (or anything dangerous for the matter) to work today. I’m sure that the majority of your organizations are going to have some sort of policy against, guns, knives, incendiary devices and other dangerous items (that might go…boom).
There’s no sense in bringing dangerous items that may cause injury to yourself or your co-workers. Do you really wanna be the guy that got their fingers blown off playing with illegal fireworks at work…and then probably terminated for it…fingerless and jobless – not necessarily a great combo.
For the rest of us, hopefully your day at work is uneventful (except for selling out the wazoo if your in commissioned sales! J), but in the event some emergency does occur, be sure that you know the location of all emergency exits, fire alarm boxes and firefighting equipment nearby, but remember: don’t be a hero, if you’re not trained to fight fires, let the professionals take care of it get yourself out of dodge.
Employers: ensure that all exits, aisles, fire equipment and valves are kept clear, unlocked and ready for immediate use.
Remember, act responsibly (especially at work), I hope all of you have a great and safe holiday.
Happy Independence Day!
